The Hunt

The morning had been long and hard. The grueling time spent had finally began to pay off. The excitment and anticipation began to build inside of me as the crew spotted the silver slender fin slicing through the sheet of water across the distant horizon. With chaos rising, the hunt had begun and the steal harpoons were locked in position. After releasing a heavy bucket full of a dark, red mixture of blood and unknown animal guts, the great white was on the prowl. The distracting spray of the ocean salt water around me made it difficult for me to interpet what a fight we were really in for. I thoroughly remember the taste of blood in my mouth, I can still taste it now. The taste of fear. The powerful senses of the shark instantly picked up the tempting scent of the animal remainings in the water and changed its course to straight towards us. Everyone was warned to have to sturdy feet on deck, for we were in for a battle with Jaws. After a precise set up, the harpoon was released and the thrashing quickly began. The great white was hooked, but not willing to easily give up the struggle that would end it's life. The wake created by the angered shark rocked and shook the boat as if we were caught in the middle of a five point earth quake. No one could imagine the man power needed to finally win what seemed to be the endless battle.

Diamond Shreddies?

Picture yourself driving down the road in your plush, leather interior SUV bouncing to the loud, booming music with your best friends, when you see THE SIGN. The big, flourescent yellow billboard that stands out at you from a mile away. Wow, "New Diamond Shreddies"! Shreddies have always been such a scrumptious and nutritious breakfast, why not try them?

Do not become tangled in Shreddies discreet web of lies. "Diamond Shreddies" are in fact a conspiracy. After first viewing this convincing sign, I began to deeply ponder the concept. Following a few moments of intense thought, my mind raged to a conclusion. For all of the mindless people in the world, here is the much needed truth: Shreddies rotated their old, boring "square" shreddies 45 degrees to try to sell this "new", amazing product. How stupid does Post think we all are? Is this what the human race is truly coming to?

Do not buy "Diamond Shreddies" and support this nonsense. And if in fact it is too late and you have already purchased a box, I suggest you phone the Shreddies hotline and post a complaint that you indeed found 5 square shreddies in the box and would like a full refund.

Top 3 Highlighters

Highlighters have evolved to be a very key utensil in every students schooling career. What are the true qualities to a top highlighter you ask? Let me tell you. My top 3 highlighters are rated on account of their reliability, brightness, colour choices, sturdiness/firmess, and if they easily smudge.

#1. I have found the BIC Brite Liner Highlighter to be my obvious number one. The visual appeal of this sleek accent utensil alone shoots it's ratings right to the top. This pen is always ready to go, taking an enormous amount of usage to run it all out. The colour availability for this pen is perfect, it is available in 14 different colours! Wow! The tip of the highlighter is just firm enough, giving it a perfect consistency while in use. As you begin to highlight words, the colour escapes from the pen, leaving a vivid colour trail behind. After waiting just a few seconds after use, I proceeded to smooth my hand over the ink and wow, no smudging. The designers of this masterpiece sure had their shares of Wheaties! What a perfect design.

#2. Coming in at number two, I have found the Sandford Liquid Accent Pen. The creative design of this group of pens is especially colourful and artistic. There are almost 9 different colour choices that have been selected describing colour names, such as berry, coral, and indigo! Why you ask is this super pen in number two? The amount of ink that is released during use is too much, causing the words being highlighted to become not visible or smudged. Uh oh! The vivid colour of the pen it outrageous and definetly captures the readers attention to those highlighted sections. I find the firmness of this pen to be a little too intense, but as far as reliability it could definely write for a long time.

#3. Sadly, coming in last is the Sanford Major Accent Pen. This pen is only available in 4 different colours, making it a very difficult choice for those picky buyers. The tip of this highlighter is too thick, which makes it very difficult to only highlight specific words or phrases. Although, this highlighter does come equipped with a plush grip, creating a comfy write for your precious fingers. The ink released from this pen, while in use, is easily smudged. Through limited usage of this utensil, I have found the tip to be uncomfortably firm. I would not recommend this highlighter as being wonderful, but it definetly is reliable!

John Lennon: "Imagine"

Lenny Kravitz stated Lennon to be "an icon for peace" and his inspiring song, "Imagine", to be "one of the greatest songs ever". "Imagine" is a peaceful and uplifting song, which through time has continued to be used at countless emotional events. (Remembrance Day etc.) Lennon's considerable dream of peace became notable through these beautiful lyrics. The last stanza in "Imagine" speaks of Lennon's hope of the world to come together and join him on his quest for peace and his dreams that oneday "the world will live as one". Unfortunetly, Issues threatening peace are still prevalent all over the world today, which keep the "Imagine" spirit still very much alive among the human race. This song continues to elevate thought about what the world would really be like if "there [was] no countries", "no possessions", or "no religion". Just "Imagine", the world would be a completely different place.

My Sister's Keeper Poem Analysis

The True Meaning of Power- Philosopher Gabriel
"The youth are exposed
To many paths in the life they live
They are exposed
To many different versions of motive
They are exposed to Power
Power, oh sweet power
Fueling in the veins
Of many
The youth must decide
How they will use their resources
They must decide
How they will light their torches
They must decide how to use Power"

The first part of the poem, "The True Meaning of Power" by Philosopher Gabriel, outlines the idea in the novel, "My Sister's Keeper, of Anna having the power to choose her path. Anna has the difficult choice whether or not she will continue to sacrifice herself for her sister, Kate. In Anna's hands rests the ultimate power to give life to her sister, or to not. "The youth must decide how they will use their resources" exemplifies Anna's choice to give up her kidney to Kate, knowing the drastic outcome of either decision. "They are exposed to many different versions of motive" illustrates that Anna has to make the final decision of sacrificing to kidney to Kate not because her parents tell her she has to, but because she finds a deeper reason and wants to give Kate the gift of life.

Journal entry for "Angels & Demons"

“Why change the world if the world is not watching?”

The Illuminati deeply wants revenge against the Catholic Church for years of humiliation and torture. In the past, the Catholic Church had held “la purga”, the branding of illuminati scientists with the symbol of the cross to purge their sins. The murdered scientist’s bodies were then dumped into the streets of Rome as a warning to other possible Illuminati members. As long anticipated revenge, the Illuminati captures the “four cardinals” and plans to reenact the horrific branding and public discarding of the bodies. The deaths of these cardinals will then be remembered…by millions.

The final detonation of the Vatican will leave the religious world in complete uproar and confusion. The present existence of the Illuminati will be revealed, just as they hope.

When horrible actions have been committed in the past, the person(s) affected want their revenge to become noticed and receive the attention that they believe should have always been received. Actions are committed everyday and constantly dismissed by the public. Those who are directly affected do not dismiss their agony and through time build up a strong bitterness to those involved, which one day shows through.

I have since finished this novel and have a different perspective, as the novel goes through a complete twist at the end.

Review for "The Game"

At only 15 minutes into the movie, "The Game", I found myself perched on the edge of my seat, tightly clutching the plastic popcorn bowl. The question "What is going on?" continuously flashed through my mind until reaching the intense, final climax at the very end of the film. "The Game" is a psychological thriller involving a prestigious man, who has everything money can buy, being sent by his younger brother on a mind blowing journey of a lifetime. The man's real life begins to become tangled deep in with "the game", over time hinting towards a larger conspiracy. The two main actors, Michael Douglas and Sean Penn, are very convincing and contribute substantially to the suspense of the film. As suspense continues building until the end and your breath becomes shorter, the true meaning of "the game" is revealed, unravelling a new outlook on the entire movie. "The Game" is an extremely intense movie guaranteed to take you on an adventure you won't soon forget.

Ignorance is Bliss

After becoming aware of a new problem troubling society, I think to myself and decide what the issue truly means to me and how it influences life in general. Since reading the story on slaughter houses, I have decided to refrain from eating burgers or meat products from fast food restaurants. Eating the products produced from these wrong doings only fuels the industry and potentially affects the health of the person eating it. After becoming informed of some topics a certain responsibility now lies in your hands. However, there are certain topics and issues that one person changing their life around will not make a difference. During my lifetime I will continually have to decide the significance of the situation to me and what would change if I decided to act upon it. Issues concerning global warming affect everyone and changes can only be made if large amounts of peope begin to change their lifestyles. Other people making you aware of issues is great and is the only way to begin changing the world.

A Girl's Story: Toni

As the curtains slowly parted, She gracefully emerged from the shadows. As her head veered, her extended, luminous, cinnamon locks swayed embracing her every move. The pureness of her intentions and her giving heart radiated through to the cheering audience. Her deep, twinkling, chestnut eyes scanned the crowd, as she began to cascade down the runway. Every man in the crowd openly displayed his overwhelming longing to call her his own. As she firmly grasped the microphone in her delicate, smooth hands and opened her luscious, red lips to speak, the crowd fell silent. All men, women, and children contained within the room were anxiously perched on the edge of their seat anticipating the words of remarkable intelligence about to be released from within her very mouth. Her voice was like that of angels singing gracefully from above. The excited crowd began chanting, "Toni! Toni!...". No one in the world could embrace a name bearing the meaning priceless better than this majestic being.

Canadian Involvement in Afghanistan

I believe that the Canadian involvement in Afghanistan has given positive reinforcement to the Afghan people, but also has a number of negative connotations. With the powerful Taliban and Al-Qaeda operating terrorist camps within Afghanistan an intervention was needed. The peace-keeping missions by Canadian soldiers are admirable, but I do not believe that Canadian lives should be placed in jeopardy. With having a close family friend be deployed to Afghanistan for a period of 6 months, I have come to understand families positions and thoughts on the controversy of why soldiers are there.

What to blog? That is the question.

The use of blogging responses in English 12 is a clever and creative idea to share thoughts and feelings on particular topics. Personally, I would like to use blogging to respond to open ended questions. Reviewing classmates responses on open questions can give insight into their own thoughts and opinions that otherwise would not be known. These questions allow the writer to be innovative with their ideas and reply in a variety of ways. The concept of people presenting random thought provoking questions is alluring and it would keep topics interesting. I would be interested to write on controversial subjects, world news stories, as well as random "what would you be?" questions. For these assignments, I would prefer to be marked and critiqued on each individual post. This way feedback would be given on each style of writing and the student's style of writing could therefore be improved.

Only a thought away....

Imagine sitting on the couch, all comfy with your blankets wrapped tightly around you when you spot the remote on the other side of the room. Telekinesis, the ability to move objects by mind power, would be my first choice of any superhero powers. I have chosen telekinesis to avoid wasting valuable time and to increase convenience. All of the time spent retrieving insignificant objects would be saved with the use of this unique power alone. With extensive mind power and focus, any object within sight would have the capability to be moved at my command. My mass amount of time saved would then be dedicated to enjoying life to the fullest, instead of looking for those misplaced keys. At last, the stubborn remote on the other side of the room is finally only a thought away.
